JLC Leaners Achieve Highest Grades
6 in every 10 John Leggott College Learners Achieve Highest Grades Inspite of the Pandemic
Over 900 highly expectant and naturally nervous A level and BTEC students arrived at John Leggott College this morning to discover that 6 in 10 of them had achieved the well sought after A*/A/B grades at A level. The high achievement grade is higher than the national average with an outstanding 99% pass rate for the entire cohort in our first formal examination series since 2019. 83% of students achieved high grades for Level 3 Vocational courses. John Leggott’s students are now able to progress swiftly on to their chosen undergraduate courses or higher apprenticeships to over 100 universities, including Oxbridge, prestigious Russell Group universities and workplace destinations.
Principal and CEO Leon Riley stated “today is my proudest moment since coming to JLC 6 years ago. These students have defied all odds and obstacles placed before them, particularly given the pandemic context. This was the first time that these students had sat formal examinations since year 6; they have excelled and surpassed their personal expectations. I am also proud of the teachers who stretched and challenged our learners to achieve their full potential and the support staff who helped them meet their personal goals, despite national lockdowns, recurrent self-isolation periods and lots of uncertainty. They are a class act.”
Chloe Smith, formerly of The Snaith School, East Riding of Yorkshire, triumphed with a triple A* in English Literature, History and Philosophy & Ethics as well as an A* for her Extended Project achieved last year. She was one of our successful A*spire Oxbridge applicants and will be progressing on to read English Language & Literature at the University of Oxford’s Brasenose College. She said “I was nervous coming in this morning, but I’m euphoric and so pleased it all worked out. I cannot wait to start my next chapter at Oxford and I’m grateful to all my teachers/mentors for supporting me with my studies and the Oxbridge process.”Rojel Varghese came from the Caistor Grammar School and has achieved grades A in Biology, A* in Chemistry and A in Mathematics. He will study Medicine at Sheffield. “I am ecstatic about my results and pleased that I will be able to fulfil my dream of becoming a GP and setting up my own practice”.
Ex-XP School Doncaster student Katie-Rae Duffield achieved grades ABB for English Language, English Literature and History respectively and has secured full-time employment as a teacher’s assistant in a local primary school, studying part-time to train as a teacher. “I am relieved that these grades open up opportunities for my future and I am excited to start work.”
Abigail Snowden, former Hungerhill Academy student, achieved grades A* in Criminology, A in Psychology and B in Sociology. She is progressing on to a Police apprenticeship and stated that she is “proud of herself given I know I panic in exams. These great grades have set me up for my future career as a Police Officer.”
Ex-Huntcliff School student Calum Wood is progressing on to the University of York to study Linguistics further to achieving triple A* in English Language, English Literature and Fine Art. “I am astounded, relieved and ready to take my next steps in becoming a successful English teacher.”Andy Pascoe, Chairman of the Corporation said “we are so proud of the students’ achievements which is a credit to their hard work and our staff.”
