This course is assessed through a variety of different methods such as exams, practical assessments, written reviews, observational analysis plus many more to develop students' skill set.

About this course

This course is ideal for learners who have a keen interest in the public services sector or wish to start a career in areas such as the RAF, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Police, Prison or Fire Service. Students will develop communication skills used in leadership and teamwork, learn more about uniformed services and understand and develop practical skills such as land navigation; as well as study crime and its effects on society. This course can be taken as a single course subject or as a double qualification. This qualification is delivered through Pearson BTEC exam board. Within this course learners will get the opportunity to go on trips, previously students have been on residential trips to Army camps.

Who is this aimed at?

This course is aimed at students who:

  • Have a keen interest in progressing into careers in uniformed protective services.

  • Wish to progress onto Higher Education in Social Sciences, Criminology, Politics or Law related fields.

What will you learn?

Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A Level) Students will study a total of 4 different units, with a mixture of external and internal assessments. - Unit 2: Behaviour and Discipline in the Uniformed Protective Services (externally assessment) - Unit 5: Teamwork, Leadership and Communications in the Uniformed Protective Services (internally assessed) - Unit 11: Expedition skills (internally assessed) - Unit 19: Professional development in the Uniformed Protective Services (internally assessed) 


Diploma (equivalent to 2 A Levels) In addition to the above units, students will also study the 4 additional units below: - Unit 1: Citizenship and Diversity (internally assessed) - Unit 4: Physical Preparation, Health and Wellbeing (internally assessed) - Unit 6: Government and the Protective Services (externally assessed) - Unit 13: Introduction to Criminology (internally assessed)
